Special Session : Digital Transformation and Smart City
The Digital Transformation and Smart City is the special session dedicated to the innovation deployment for disruptive technology integration and applications in smart cities. Along with digital transformation, a new development trend of cities in the sustainable development goals era helps the cities to optimise natural resources consumption, develop sustainably, provide better healthcare, enhance performance and wellbeing, and bring more safety, security and convenience for citizens. What are the opportunities and challenges we may face to make our cities smarter, better places to live? The session gathers industry leaders, together with researchers, colleagues to share their thoughts and raise their voices about the cities of the future. The session includes but is not limited to the following topics:
- Disruptive Technology Integration/Applications (Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Big Data, Cybersecurity, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) for Smart City Development
- Digital Transformation in Healthcare, Education, Finance and Banking, Agriculture, Transportation and Logistics, Energy, Resources and Environment, Industry.
Takeaways of the Workshop
The special session will provide the most recent advances in smart cities research to encourage the deployment of smart technology and development of architectures to smart cities sustainable growth and development in times of national and global digital transformation. It is expected to have innovative study on technologies, tools, applications, novel designs, testbed and architectures of smart cities, share experimental or theoretical results, work-in-progress, exchange experiences and draw lessons both domestically and internationally on implementation of smart cities at various scales, promote the approaches and strategies by means of which a diversity of stakeholders engage in contributing, co-creating and making smart cities.

Assoc. Prof. Pham Van Tuan is Director of Quality Assurance Department, University of Science and Technology – University of Danang, Vietnam. He is Founder of Digital Innovation Lab (DILab) which is the innovative joint university-industry laboratory focusing on Artificial Intelligence, Digital Signal Processing applied in Smart Living, Smart Health, Smart University, …
His research domain is based on Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence. Wavelet transform and Chirplet Transform are his deep interests in signal analysis and representation framework for various applications. He also focuses on construction of multimodal high-level features composing of low-level features for high performance deep learning algorithms. These outcomes are exploited in smart healthcare, food, environment and transportation under the smart city concept. Besides, he is innovating on a transformative research framework for higher education digital transformation and social innovation. He had been Program Co-Chairs, Session Chairs and LOCs of many local and international workshops, conferences.
Dr. Fabien Ferrero
University of Cote d’Azur
Fabien Ferrero (Member, IEEE) received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in 2007. From 2008 to 2009, he worked for IMRA Europe (Aisin Seiki Research Center) as a Research Engineer and developed automotive antennas. In 2010, he is recruited as an Associate Professor with the Polytechnic School, Université Nice Sophia-Antipolis. Since 2018, he has been a Full Professor with the Université Côte d’Azur. His studies concerned the design and measurement of millimetric antennas, IoT systems, and reconfigurable antennas. He is a member of LEAT (Laboratoire d’Electronique, Antennes et Telecommunications).
Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu
Vice-director of Danang International Institute of Technology, The University of Danang, the vice-dean of the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology. She got her doctoral degree at The Catholic University of America in 2013 and has 11 year working in Smart Healthcare, Biophotonics, DSP, Medical Imaging.
